The three biggest clashes to look forward to at Ascot on Champions Day 🤩

It’s Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday and there’s plenty of exhilarating action to look forward to. There are going to be loads of quality horses on show, with no fewer than four Group 1 races on the card. We’ve picked out three of the biggest potential clashes on Saturday which should create some fascinating contests. Long Distance Cup

Kyprios and Trueshan are both high-class stayers and if they oppose each other on Saturday, it’ll make for a fantastic race.

Aidan O’Brien’s Kyprios returned in the Irish St. Leger at the Curragh last month, after an absence of 344 days. Finishing second that day, it’s reasonable to expect plenty of improvement here and he could prove hard to beat.

Trueshan has bounced right back to form since having wind surgery in May. Winning both starts since, he was back to his very best in the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp last time out. He’ll love the ground if it’s soft and he has won the last three renewals of this race.

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

It’s unusual to have two such exceptional three-year-old milers from the same crop but we’ve been very lucky this year. Both Paddington and Tahiyra are champions in their own right and the pair could clash on Saturday.

Paddington’s winning streak came to an end in the Juddmonte International at York last time out but he lost little in defeat. It proved to be one race too many and he should be refreshed after a short break. Aidan O’Brien will undoubtedly get him back to his best.

Tahiyra just missed out in the 1000 Guineas in May but hasn’t looked back since, winning three consecutive Group 1 races. Dermot Weld’s filly is clearly exceptional and she’s more than capable of serving it up to Paddington.

Frankie Dettori vs Ryan Moore

Frankie Dettori heads off to ride in the US at the end of the year and if he doesn’t return to these shores, he has four final chances for Group 1 glory in Britain. Ryan Moore is the man for the big occasion and he looks likely to be Dettori’s biggest challenge. Ballydoyle’s primary jockey has an eye-catching book of potential rides.
