‘The mud will be flying’ – Three soft ground horses to follow at Nottingham

The recent weather has caused several meetings to be called off over the last week or so. Nottingham‘s meeting on Wednesday is expected to take place in pretty testing conditions as a result. With the going currently described as soft, heavy in places, the mud will surely be flying. Blewburton obliged with minimal fuss when scoring comfortably on debut at Leicester at April. Eve Johnson Houghton’s gelding cut through the mud with ease and stayed on nicely to score by two lengths despite getting outpaced at one stage. The trip didn’t suit on handicap debut at Sandown when last seen but a 2lb lower mark combined with Mia Nicholls’ 5lb claim certainly will.

Corsican Caper has had a very productive season thus far, winning four times. It’s possible that he might be in the grip of the handicapper now but his record on soft ground makes him worth giving another chance. He has won three times on soft ground and once on heavy, meaning conditions won’t cause him any problems.

5.25 Nottingham

Terries Royale has been in fine form for Mick Appleby of late and appears to be progressing nicely. The four-year-old has won two of his last three starts, both on soft ground, and was particularly impressive at Newmarket last time out. A 5lb penalty will make little difference on that evidence and it’s likely that he remains ahead of the handicapper.
