The Melbourne Cup takes place at Flemington in Australia on Tuesday and it’s a race of huge international renown. Ryan Moore is flying over to take part and he’ll be in cracking form after a magnificent ride on Auguste Rodin in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Riding for another European raider, the bookies could get an absolute bashing if the horse does the business. The race takes place in the early hour of the morning and it’s worth getting up early for. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Vauban is a warm order at the top of the market and the bookies could be running for the hills if he wins. This horse isn’t too far way from the top of the tree over hurdles and he’s had an excellent summer on the Flat.
Trained by Willie Mullins, he made a mockery of his rating when winning a seemingly competitive Royal Ascot handicap in June. He surprised his trainer by following up in good style at group 3 level at Naas last time out.
The return to two miles is likely to suit this Grade 1-winning hurdler and he’s very adaptable with regards to ground. It’s worth noting that he’s only had six starts on the Flat, which means there’s reason to expect further improvement. That is certainly a scary thought and Ryan Moore has every chance of adding a second Melbourne Cup to his CV.
We’ve selected a huge outsider for the big race, in the shape of Joseph O’Brien’s Okita Soushi and you can click the link here to find out why.
