The racing over the festive period is always top-drawer and is therefore usually informative with regards to Cheltenham. We’ve learnt plenty about the chances of the early season market leaders and there has been a lot of changes. One race that has been shaken up significantly is the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, where one horse is a short as 14/1, having been available at 50/1 earlier this week. We’re going to take a look at some of the biggest market movers in the last few days. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Harry Fry’s gelding ran a fair race to finish sixth in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March and he remains unbeaten in three starts over hurdles. Most recently he got the better of previous Supreme Novices’ Hurdle favourite Mydaddypaddy in the Formby Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree on Boxing Day. Clearly he’s a talented performer and the previously available big prices are long gone.
Henry de Bromhead’s Koktail Divin was an impressive winner of a beginners’ chase at Leopardstown on Sunday and has been cut for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase as a consequence. He was lightly raced over hurdles and bumped into Romeo Coolio on chase debut. The penny dropped at the third time of asking and he easily got the better of Willie Mullins’ Kiss Will. More will be needed to take on Final Demand but he’s going the right way.
The Hunters’ Chase market is wide-open at the moment and there are 7/1 co-favourites. Paul Nicholls has done well in this race over the years and Viroflay did his chances no harm by winning a good race at Kempton. Olive Nicholls would be likely to keep the ride, after winning on him on Saturday, and you wouldn’t want to rule out a big run.
