Aidan O’Brien’s The Lion In Winter was the ante-post favourite for the 2000 Guineas all through the winter but that has has been announced as a major doubt. There has been a big shake up in the market as a result and it’s all to play for. Liam Bramall has picked out a 40/1 selection that could outrun his price if lining up in Newmarket’s first Classic of the season and he’s another Irish raider. Green Impact represents the Jessica Harrington yard and he showed some smart form as a juvenile last term. He was very progressive in three starts and he’s entitled to improve plenty as a three-year-old. This son of Wootton Bassett is distantly related to an Irish 2000 Guineas winner and could be one to watch with that in mind.
Second on debut over 7f at the Curragh, he kept on well and only just failed to catch the winner. The form of that race has worked out unbelievably well and although the winner hasn’t run since, the next eight horses home have all won.
Harrington’s colt won when upped to a mile at Leopardstown and he got the better of the useful Delacroix as well as two other subsequent winners. Overcoming a slow start that day, it was a good performance to come out on top by a length-and-a-half.
A step up in grade then followed and he beat Delacroix again in the Group 2 KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes. There should be loads more to come in 2025 from this progressive sort so don’t overlook him if he lines up here.
