The 7-1 shot that could be Britain’s best chance in the Arc on Sunday 🏆

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is one of the most prestigious races in Europe and it takes place at Longchamp on Sunday. Alongside the prestige, it also boasts a prize pool of almost €4.5 million. This means that there will be interest from all over the continent. Britain has won four of the last 10 renewals and we may have found Britain’s best chance of winning it again. The horse in question has won in France before and has improved significantly this year. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Westover (7-1, Skybet) is an excellent candidate for the race this year. Ralph Beckett’s charge was a comfortably-beaten sixth in this race as a three-year-old last year. He looks like a stronger horse this year and has taken his form to another level. Already a winner in France, he scored in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud back in July. That will stand him in good stead as the style of racing is often very different in France.

There’s a chance the ground may not be as testing as it usually is by early October. The going is currently soft but there isn’t a great deal of rain in the forecast between now and Sunday. Good to soft ground would be almost ideal for this horse, as he has a solid record on it.

It was a fine performance from Westover when a very narrow second in the King George last time out and he wouldn’t need to find much to reverse the form with Hukum. He’s been off for two months since and it can often be a massive advantage to be fresh coming into this usually gruelling race. A career-best will be required but he’s still improving and certainly shouldn’t be ruled out.
