Dan Skelton appeared to be coasting towards a first British National Hunt Trainers’ Championship title for most of the season, but things quickly changed after the Cheltenham Festival. Willie Mullins dominated once again and followed up at Aintree, meaning it’s now a close scrap heading into the final weeks of the season.
The Irish trainer is sending four runners over to Cheltenham on Wednesday so we’ve combined the two most likely winners into a tasty double. You can also check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Toad Hall (15/8, bet365) began his career by finishing second in a Clonmel bumper on heavy ground back in 2023. Showing some promise that day, he kept on well to dead-heat for second, despite not having the pace to trouble the winner.
We then didn’t see him for 690 days but he ran a cracker to finish second by half-a-length on his first start over hurdles at Punchestown in February. Clearly he was entitled to improve for the run and he did so, going on to win by 10 lengths next time. There should be plenty more to come from this gelding.
O’Moore Park (7/2, bet365) won a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in good style back in January 2024 and both the second and third won their next starts, providing a substantial boost to the form. He has made a slow start to life over fences but it was a much better display here last time out.
Finishing third behind Caldwell Potter in the Jack Richards Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase, that was much more like it and the winner has won a Grade 1 since. This looks like a good opportunity to earn a first victory over fences and the handicapper has left his mark alone.
