Ayr hosts a seven-race card on Monday and the feature event is the Class 4 Book The Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup Handicap. Whilst the competitive nature of the racing gives us plenty to ponder, we have an added element of intrigue with three Irish raiders coming over. We’re going to take a close look at their chances and there’s an Adrian McGuinness runner who should be going close. We tipped up a 40/1 accumulator on Friday so check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Dazzling Spirit represents the Cian Collins yard and the seven-year-old has won four of her 45 starts so far. Interestingly, she has been a non-runner a couple of times on good ground this season but her last win came on good ground at Clonmel in September 2023. Her form this season has been pretty poor however and she was well beaten her over 1m2f last time.
Clonmacash finished fourth by a length here over 6f the other day and that was a cracking run. The two-day turnaround isn’t ideal but a similar performance should give him every chance. He lacked the pace to close the gap on his rivals and the return to 7f should suit with that in mind. Adrian McGuinness’ four-year-old won off this mark at Dundalk in February and is entitled to be in the mix once again.
I’m Spartacus comes back in trip here and won at Dundalk over 6f over the winter. Connections decided to give him a break in the spring but his two runs since have been a little underwhelming. The handicapper has responded accordingly however and he should be competitive off this sort of mark.
