‘That performance was stunning’ – 6/1 and 20/1 ante-post Coral Gold Cup tips

The top quality racing comes thick and fast at this time of year and the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury is one of the best handicaps of the season. Liam Bramall tipped the winner at 16/1 in 2023 and has taken an ante-post look at this year’s renewal.

An impressive Cheltenham Festival hero looks like the one to beat and a 20/1 Irish raider takes his fancy at a bigger price. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Myretown

Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore’s stable star was a very impressive winner of the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival. That was a stunning performance and he made an absolute mockery of his handicap mark, kicking clear to score by 11 lengths.

Making all the running that day, he travelled and jumped well throughout. The son of Dylan Thomas took full advantage off 127 and looked like a graded horse running in a handicap. It’s hard to argue with a 15lb rise on that evidence and he looks well set for another huge performance.

Clearly a significant rise in the weights is going to have an impact but he’s lightly raced over fences and there could be loads more to come. It wouldn’t be surprise if Myretown goes on to be a graded performer and this is a great starting point for the season.

Monty’s Star

Henry de Bromhead’s eight-year-old finished second to Fact To File in the 2024 Brown Advisory and was narrowly denied in a Grade 1 at Punchestown. Unsurprisingly he was highly tried last season and he ran respectably in some of Ireland’s best races. A big performance would be required off 159 but the drop in grade could facilitate a return to winning ways.
