The Breeders’ Cup is set to take place at Santa Anita on Friday and Saturday. It’s two days of excellent racing with plenty of international flavour. As always, there will be a strong British contingent this year so we’ve picked out four horses that could grab the glory in America. Big Evs has had a wonderful season so far and continues to improve. He absolutely bolted up in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and the second and third have boosted the form since. It was a no nonsense performance from him at Doncaster last time out, he made all and the result never looked in doubt. This will be his toughest test to date but he has the ability to run a huge race.
Inspiral goes up to 1m2f for the first time here and her pedigree suggests it won’t be a problem. This daughter of Frankel bolted up in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket last time and arrives here in terrific form. She has all the ability in the world and is unlikely to be far away at the business end of the race.
Mawj got the better of the excellent Tahiyra in the 1000 Guineas in May but we haven’t seen her in Britain since, due to a setback. Saeed bin Suroor’s charge made a victorious return to racing at Keeneland last month and she’s entitled to improve for the run. Hopefully there’s more to come from this very talented three-year-old filly.
King Of Steel was victorious in the Champion Stakes over 1m2f at Ascot when last seen. His overall form would suggest that 1m4f is more suitable and the return to this trip is a massive positive. The quicker ground here will also help and Roger Varian’s charge is more than capable of winning this.
