Surely a tip in itself? Ryan Moore has one Newmarket ride on Tuesday and it’s in a handicap

The incredible Ryan Moore is already operating at his usual 36 per cent strike-rate this season and fresh off the back of a nice weekend at Leopardstown, it has to be of interest that he will take the ride on a sole runner at Newmarket on Tuesday, and that is in a handicap! Surely that has to perk interest so let’s take a look at the runner in more detail below!

3.00 Newmarket

Moore is gearing up for a big week at Newmarket with his ride on Ed Dunlop’s Sierra Sands in the 7f handicap at Newmarket. The 3yo son of Sands Of Mali made a very pleasing debut over this trip at Leicester in September when bumping into a Karl Burke-trained runner, but he showed plenty of ability on the day.

On his next start over this course and distance, his performance wasn’t so good. Five runners went to post and surprisingly he was steadied at the start in what turned out to be a very tactical affair, and the odds-on favourite and Godolphin runner Castle Rock made every post a winning one on the day. It is worth noting that Castle Rock went on to win his next start too.

Sierra Sands was sent off a warm favourite for a 7f Catterick maiden when last seen in October and he was given a more prominent ride when pushed out to win by half a length. He now makes his handicap debut off a fair mark of 79 and a much larger field could suit him on his return to Newmarket. Everything is set for a big effort.
