Sir Mark Prescott hasn’t sent many runners to Salisbury this season, having had just four so far. It appears he’s rather selective as three of them have won. This 75 per cent strike-rate is not to be sniffed at and it suggests that all his Salisbury runners are sent with a purpose. Therefore, it could be significant that he sends just one to the Wiltshire track on Thursday, which has to be of interest. Warmonger has had one start so far which was fairly underwhelming in truth. It came over 7f at Leicester last month and he was beaten by 25 lengths, finishing last of eight runners. The trip would have been inadequate and he wasn’t helped by a slow start. That may prove to be a strong maiden however and he would have learnt plenty from the experience.
Stepping up to a mile is likely to inspire significant improvement as his pedigree suggests it’s a much more suitable trip. His half-brother finished second in a Group 3 over 1m2f for Donnacha O’Brien and his dam won over 1m4f for Joseph O’Brien. There’s plenty to like about his pedigree and he’s likely to flourish over middle-distances eventually.
Prescott has done particularly well at Salisbury over the last five seasons. He’s had nine winners from just 20 runners in that time, which gives him a very healthy strike-rate of 45 per cent. This certainly bodes well for his charge’s chances here and a big run could be on the cards. Plenty of improvement will be required if Warmonger is to get his head in front but he certainly has the pedigree to do it.
