Newmarket-based trainer Sir Mark Prescott is clearly being selective with which runners he sends to Nottingham this year. His two runners there so far in 2024 have both been victorious, giving him a 100 per cent record. His runner in the final race of the day there on Tuesday has to be one to watch on that evidence so we’ve taken a close look at the horse’s chances. Overture has had just three starts in handicap company and surely remains significantly unexposed in this sphere. She showed some promise when seventh on debut at Lingfield in October and kept on at the finish despite never really being put in the race.
Her next couple of starts were a little disappointing with that in mind, as was her handicap debut at Kempton. The daughter of New Approach improved after that to finish third at Chepstow over 7f, even though the trip was a little on the short side.
Getting off the mark when upped to 1m2f at Yarmouth last time out, she still looked a little green at times but kept on well to score by a length-and-a-half in the end. A 4lb rise seems to be pretty fair and there should be loads more improvement to come.
Sir Mark Prescott has been in good form in the last fortnight, with five winners from just 15 runners, and more success could well be on the cards here. He’ll undoubtedly want the unbeaten run to continue and Overture looks well set to make it 3/3.
