Santos Blue (14/1) was twice a winner over 2m4f last season and he was a big eye-catcher over around that trip when flying home into second late on at Hereford last month behind an impressive winner. On that evidence, the step back up to three miles should be massively in his favour. He has run well over 3m before and is unexposed over the distance so it’s a surprise to see him trading at such large odds.

Dameofthecotswolds (16/1) certainly has a lot on her plate here in the 2m5f Listed mares’ hurdle but she’s a good hardy mare and she will take advantage if the market leaders underperform. The former bumper winner won 3 mares’ maiden and novice hurdles in the autumn and she just didn’t see out the 3m for the first time when last seen at Windsor. She should be a bigger threat back over shorter here.

Go Dante (33/1) won at Cheltenham handicap hurdle off 125 last season before going on to win the Imperial Cup at Sandown off 129. He’s only 1lb higher than that here and although he has been out of form for a while, he is such a good horse on a going day that it’s impossible to write him off here. It would be no shock to see plenty of money come for him.
