Road to Cheltenham: 25/1 is too big a price for this Albert Bartlett candidate

Our ante-post Road to Cheltenham series continues and this week we turn our attention to the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle. One for the stayers, it can often be a gruelling race and stamina almost always wins the day. We’ve picked out a potential runner at odds of 25/1 that would surely be much shorter if lining up on the day. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing and we also provide greyhound tips.

Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Potters Charm hasn’t tasted defeat since finishing second in an Irish point at Boulta in November last year. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ five-year-old is unbeaten in four starts under rules and has the potential to go far in novice hurdles this season.

This son of Valirann was an impressive winner of a bumper at Ffos Las on heavy ground in March and appears to go on any ground. Particularly impressive when easily dispatching a Grade 2 winner by 11 lengths here over 2m5f recently, we’ll learn more if he runs in the Challow, which Britain’s best novices are set to line up in, and a strong test of stamina would play to his strengths.

The Turners Novices’ Hurdle over 2m5f looks like his primary target but this three-mile race would potentially give him the best chance of winning at the Festival. He looked very strong at the end of the race when winning here last time out and the extra three furlongs won’t be an issue.
