The first instalment of our Road to Cheltenham series was published last week and we have another outstanding candidate for your consideration. Cheltenham’s four-day festival in March is so important that the whole National Hunt season is geared towards it. This week we’ve got a tantalising 20-1 ante-post tip for one of the best races at the Festival, the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
This is one of the best races of the week and the top three-mile novice chasers take centre stage. It’s a hard race to win as the perfect combination of class and relentless stamina is required. The winner of this race can often become a leading contender for the following year’s Gold Cup.
Blazing Khal (20-1, William Hill) possesses all the tools required to go right to the top. Charles Byrnes’ charge was a highly promising novice hurdler in 2021 and he won two Grade 2 races at Cheltenham. Injury curtailed his season and he undoubtedly would have had a smashing chance in the Albert Bartlett that year.
We didn’t see him again until February this year and he came back with an impressive victory in the Boyne Hurdle at Navan. His preparation for the Stayers’ Hurdle was interrupted after that and he can be forgiven for his below-par effort.
An injury-free season will enable him to reach his full potential and he certainly deserves that. The prospect of him going chasing is very exciting and there’s plenty more to come from this talented individual. Fences will bring out the best in him and his current price looks particularly appealing.
Blazing Khal @ 20-1 (Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase) 1pt win
Ballyburn (Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle) @ 7-1 (2pts win)
