We tipped last month’s 33/1 December Gold Cup winner Glengouly and our 25/1 ante-post Peter Marsh selection was denied by a neck when finishing second on Saturday.
This week we turn our attention to Cheltenham’s Trials Day card on Saturday and Liam Bramall has selected a 14/1 shot, who should be returning to winning ways sooner rather than later.
Returning to handicaps will suit the horse in question and a big run is anticipated. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Boombawn (14/1, bet365) has been running in graded races for a while now and although he has performed with credit, returning to handicaps should suit. Both of his chase wins so far came in novice company, the first of which was achieved at Warwick back in May 2024.
The second came in the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices’ Chase at Wincanton the following November and he narrowly got the better of the 142-rated Soul Icon. He hasn’t won over fences since but was far from disgraced when fourth behind Impaire Et Passe at Aintree in the spring.
Dan Skelton’s gelding kept on to finish fourth in the Old Roan on seasonal debut, but couldn’t get anywhere near the winner when fourth behind Djelo in the Peterborough Chase. Back on track when a close up third at Kempton last time, he should be very competitive now down in grade.
Skelton looks well set to become champion trainer for the first time this season, as he’s currently well clear of the chasing pack, and the substantial first prize would be another welcome boost to his chances. Don’t rule out a return to winning ways here.
