Tom Bellamy is riding the crest of a wave since he rode a winner at the Cheltenham Festival and has now ridden four winners from his last five rides. He has three booked rides for Warwick on Thursday and we will assess their chances below.
The first port of call for Bellamy is the 2m4f handicap chase at Warwick where he will take the ride on the David Dennis runner, Harthill. She was a surprise 50/1 winner over hurdles at Stratford in November 2023 and then spent two years off the track so clearly had her issues. She has overall been very poor this season, her best effort by far when beaten only a length into second over hurdles at Wincanton in January. The cheekpieces go on now on her first start over fences.
Moving onto the 2m mares’ handicap hurdle next and Bellamy will be on another likely outsider in the form of Mistral Milly for the Jeffreys stable. The 7yo mare ran some nice races in defeat when trained by Emma Lavelle but she came back from a lengthy absence when beaten out of sight on yard debut at Haydock this month and a huge leap of faith would be required to support her on the back of that effort. She will sport a tongue-tie for the first time.
Bellamy’s best chance is seemingly in the closing bumper where he will get the leg over Alan King’s Aribidia. The son of Masar has a smart Flat pedigree as he’s a half-brother to three winners on Flat, including the classy Rogue Millennium. He was given a tender ride when fifth of 14 in a Kempton bumper last month and should be much sharper here.
