Patrick Mullins is 2/2 at Ballinrobe and heads there for one ride on Tuesday

Ballinrobe has been a happy hunting ground for Patrick Mullins during the current National Hunt season. One of the best amateur riders around, Mullins has won with both of his rides at the County Mayo track. He’s set to ride one there on Tuesday and the horse in question has every chance of extending the rider’s unbeaten streak. 8.23 Ballinrobe

Base Of Fire makes his third bumper start here and is likely to be very popular with the punters. Richard O’Brien’s five-year-old was second in a Punchestown bumper when last seen. Fourth at Navan before that, the form looks very solid and he clearly needed the run.

Interestingly he would usually get to ride Willie Mullins’ bumper horses and his father has a runner in this race. You can certainly see why he has taken the ride, as Base Of Fire’s most recent effort showed plenty of promise. A similar effort could well be enough but a little bit of improvement wouldn’t go amiss either.

This is probably the horse’s best opportunity to date but there are several horses with placed form that could provide a strong challenge. These include Peter Fahey’s Jazzwing, who finished third behind a promising Willie Mullins-trained mare on debut.

Mullins’ record at Ballinrobe over the last five seasons is also eye-catching as he has a strike-rate of 57 per cent during that time. It’s also worth noting that he has had 32 track winners from just 76 rides over the course of his career, which makes him a jockey to follow here.
