We now have a new ante-post favourite for the Triumph Hurdle on our hands, after Nicky Henderson declared a juvenile hurdler at Kempton on Saturday. Regardless of whether or not the race goes ahead there will surely be plenty of interested parties.
The horse in question represents the same connections as Sir Gino and entered the ante-post market at 33/1 a few months ago. Shortening gradually since, his price has capitulated after being declared to make his stable debut. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Lulamba made one start over hurdles at Auteuil for Arnaud Chaille-Chaille and he pulled clear nicely to win by five lengths, despite some inconsistent jumping. Plenty of work will be done on that front and there’s clearly a sizeable engine in there.
There are some significant doubts about whether or not racing will go ahead at Kempton on Saturday but the fact that he’s ready to roll means it won’t be long until we see him race in Britain.
This strong market support is certainly worth highlighting, particularly as he’s yet to run in Britain, but if the race goes ahead on Saturday he might not have it all his own way. Paul Nicholls has declared Listed winner Sauvignon, who is also set to make his stable debut.
If Lulamba turns up here and destroys the field, those who managed to get on at bigger prices will be looking very smug. It’s not out of the question that an impressive performance could lead to further price cuts and you’ll want to be on the lookout for him wherever he runs.
