‘Mud lovers will struggle’ – Four horses suited by good ground at Cheltenham on Friday

Trainers all over Britain and Ireland have been bemoaning the lack of rain in recent weeks and Cheltenham‘s declarations have taken a hit as a result. Whilst the official going description is good, good to soft in places, it’s likely to ride on the quicker side and mud lovers are likely to struggle. We’ve selected horses on Friday that will thrive in the conditions and should therefore have an advantage. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.10 Cheltenham

Double Powerful has won three of his four starts on good ground and has been in fine form of late. Neil Mulholland’s five-year-old won his fifth consecutive start in good style at Fontwell last week and a 7lb penalty should be manageable, provided the race hasn’t come too soon.

1.45 Cheltenham

Springwell Bay is yet to finish outside of the first three in four starts on good, winning three of those. Connections are confident that he’s going to be a smart novice chaser this term and he made a good start over fences when winning a Listed race at Chepstow.

2.20 Cheltenham

Jonbon would probably be winning this on any ground but it’s certainly a positive that he’s unbeaten in two starts on good. Nicky Henderson’s 170-rated chaser was an impressive winner of the Celebration Chase when last seen and should be taking home the spoils here for the second time in as many years.

3.30 Cheltenham

Gale Mahler has won five times on good ground and her effort behind Valgrand here when last seen suggests the 2m5f trip will help her to bridge the gap. A Listed winner at the Galway Festival this summer, Adrian Keatley’s mare is likely to run her race once again.
