Mickey Bowen sends a runner to Listowel for the first time ever on Wednesday

Mickey Bowen has made an incredible start to his career as a solo trainer and he sits at the top of the championship, after amassing £350,000 in prize money over the summer period. He has only had one previous runner in Ireland but that is set to change on Wednesday.

Bowen sends one runner over to Listowel for their feature race, the Kerry National, and that’s definitely an interesting move. Here we take a look at the horse’s chances of coming out on top. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.23 Listowel

Light N Strike has only recently joined Bowen, having spent most of his career with Emma Lavelle. The son of Leading Light has won five times over fences and the most recent victory came at Newton Abbot in May. Making his stable debut here, he was outstayed over 3m2f at Uttoxeter last time out but the two-furlong shorter trip shouldn’t be an issue.

That aforementioned Newton Abbot success came by a cosy margin of three lengths and he shaped as if another three furlongs wouldn’t be an issue. He should be competitive off this mark but this looks like a significant step up in grade.

There are also some concerns with regards to ground, as his six career wins have come on good or good to firm. Listowel’s official going description of yielding, yielding to soft in places could be an issue with that in mind.
