4.15 Plumpton

Only five runners are set to go to post for the 2m4f handicap chase at Plumpton but the race has been made all the more interesting by the fact bottom weight Rap Soul has been smashed from 20-1 all the way into 7-2 at the time of writing this article.

Trained by Richard Bandey, the 7yo is very lightly raced for his age and although he has shown absolutely zilch in a bumper and three starts over hurdles for this yard, there is reason to believe he will improve significantly on his chase debut today as he steps up in trip also.

Rap Soul finished second in a Knockmullen House maiden point-to-point in November 2024 for Michael Goff and the sixth that day has since won in that sphere. His dam is a half-sister to French 2m1f hurdle/chase winner Bathilde too so there is some jumping prowess in the family.

Bandey has had four winners since the turn of the New Year which means the stable is ticking over just fine, and given the weight of money for this horse today, it is clear that someone feels he is off a very lenient mark on his handicap debut.
