We now have a whole other element to consider with regards to ante-post Cheltenham Festival betting, now that the initial handicap entries have been made. Looking for early value is always a good idea and there are plenty of interesting ante-post angles to look at.
Liam Bramall has picked out three particularly interesting potential candidates who are well worth considering. These include a Fred Winter entry who’s going the right way and recent history tells us his trainer Joseph O’Brien doesn’t miss in this race. Glen to Glen (14/1, bet365) is rated 87 on the Flat and managed to win a maiden over 6f in that sphere. He improved significantly to get off the mark at Cork last time and seems likely to progress again. Joseph O’Brien has won this race for the last two seasons and it would be no surprise if this progressive juvenile goes on to make it 3/3.
No Questions Asked (16/1, bet365) does have several options so NRNB might be the way to go. Ben Pauling’s progressive novice won a Grade 2 at Warwick last time out and might be better than his current mark of 149. It’s an extremely warm Arkle this year so handicaps could be the way to go and he’s definitely good enough to make his presence felt.
Wingmen (16/1, bet365) was more than useful as a novice hurdler last term and he won a maiden, before going on to place in a couple of Grade 1s. He has placed behind some smart horses in beginners’ chases this season and the switch to handicaps could facilitate a significant amount of improvement.
