There’s heavy ground, then there’s Ffos Las heavy. The Welsh track becomes infamously testing when heavy so it’s going to be bottomless on Thursday. Flat horses aren’t usually bred for these conditions so you’ll be looking out for horses with proven form when the going is heavy.
We’ve got you covered with three selections to follow who should have an advantage over their rivals, having performed well in testing conditions previously. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Lunarscape is unbeaten on heavy ground, winning her sole start on it here over an extended 7f earlier this month. She stuck to her task well that day to score by a length and a 2lb rise looks more than reasonable. None of her rivals have won on heavy before and that surely gives Mark Loughnane’s filly a huge chance. Apprentice Sean D Bowen takes the ride here and his strike-rate of 50 per cent in the last 14 days is seriously impressive.
Beeley came very close to getting off the mark at the first time of asking when beaten by a nose at Nottingham in October. The ground was heavy that day and the form suggests she’s well set to cope with the conditions here. It’s only a matter of time before she starts winning and this could well be the day.
City Escape is another Mark Loughnane runner with a 100 per cent record on heavy ground. That success came over course and distance back in August 2023. Currently on a 3lb lower mark, she’s entitled to run a massive race on that evidence. Only one of her seven rivals has won on heavy before and a return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out.
