‘It’s far too early to give up on him’ – Four Friday outsiders including a 25/1 tip

There are four meetings taking place across Britain on Friday and that means there will be plenty of opportunities for an each-way play. Here we take a look at four horses that could be significantly overpriced on the day and we wouldn’t be surprised to see them run huge races.

One of the runners in question is available at substantial odds of 22/1 and is thoroughly unexposed in handicap company. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.38 Doncaster

Punxsutawney Phil (25/1, bet365) showed a good attitude to win over three miles at Musselburgh on his penultimate start. Making all the running that day, the trip clearly suited nicely. Connections dropped him back to 2m4f when last of six off this mark at Sedgefield on Boxing Day and the extended three miles here should be to his liking.

3.13 Doncaster

Mixedwave (20/1, William Hill) was last victorious off this very mark at Huntingdon in March and there were small signs of a return to form at the same track last time out. The handicapper has dropped him a further 2lb since and Paul O’Brien’s mount certainly isn’t without a chance.

4.10 Sandown

Blue Universe (22/1, betfair) wasn’t disgraced in four starts over hurdles last season and remains thoroughly unexposed in handicaps. It’s far too early to give up on him and he was a little outpaced when running a solid enough race at Lingfield recently. Going up to 2m4f could help on that front and he’s entitled to improve in this sphere.

6.45 Southwell

Lucky Man (16/1, bet365) was a game winner off this mark at Windsor in August and although his last two runs have been disappointing, he should be competitive this time around. Richard Spencer’s six-year-old is a past course and distance winner and an improved performance is expected.
