‘It will be very hard work’ – Four horses who will love the ground at Nottingham

The going is officially described as heavy, soft in places for Nottingham‘s seven-race card on Wednesday so it will be very hard work for some of the runners. Others have proven form in testing conditions however and they are the horses you want to consider.

1.10 Nottingham

Tiriac hasn’t won since June 2024 but he currently finds himself on a 10lb lower mark. More importantly, he has won two of his five previous starts on heavy ground. The most recent of those came off a 4lb higher mark and a return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out.

1.40 Nottingham

Dreams Adozen is a thorough stayer and she was a course and distance winner on heavy ground when last seen. It certainly helps that she stays as far as 2m2f but James Owen’s mare has also won three of her five starts on heavy ground. Conditions will suit once again and a 2lb rise should be manageable.

2.40 Nottingham

Northwest Passage has turned a corner since being gelded over the summer and he absolutely bolted up on heavy ground at Salisbury in September. He followed that up by finishing second in a better race at Newbury and could still be ahead of the handicapper.

3.10 Nottingham

Dashing Roger hasn’t had the best of season’s so far but the return to very testing conditions is likely to help. The handicapper has also responded accordingly and he has dropped to a mark of just 67. Unbeaten in three starts on heavy ground, one of those wins came over course and distance and the drop in grade provides a good opportunity here.
