‘Is his money down?’ – JP McManus runner backed from 25/1 into 8/1 at Cartmel

Our resident horse racing man Adrian Wall has always been an avid market watcher. He has spotted a pretty large ongoing gamble taking place at Cartmel Racecourse today. Our free horse racing tips are also available every single day and we have been in good form the past month. Let’s take a closer look at the big gamble in more detail below.

5.15 Cartmel

It’s always worth keeping an eye out for a JP McManus gamble on a Monday, and it’s interesting that a flurry of money has come for Coqolino in the 2m5f Wicks Waste Management Handicap Chase, a race the yard has won twice in the last four years.

Trained by Ben Haslam, Coqolino was backed from an opening price of 25/1 all the way into 3/1 this morning, and although he has now drifted back out to around 8/1, could JP’s money be already down?

It will be interesting to see how the market goes for this horse as the day progresses. His recent form figures which read 3P454-58P are far from inspiring but he was placed off a mark of 129 in a Punchestown handicap chase in November and is now running from a 12lb lower mark, so he’s certainly running from a very workable mark to say the least.

Lightly raced for a 9yo, Haslam and McManus have another runner in the field courtesy of Dr Sanderson who has a totally different profile coming into this race with some decent form, but Coqolino looks the better handicapped of the pair if he can put it all together so let’s see which way they go in the market.
