Irish trainer John McConnell has had great success at Wolverhampton in times gone by and he will send two runners to the track on Tuesday evening! Both should be a decent price so read on to find out about their chances.
McConnell has had good success at the track, netting 10 career winners from 35 runners, a return of 29 per cent and a level stakes profit of +£9.21. His first runner is Slowdownbarney in the 1m6f handicap and Hollie Doyle will take the ride.
He has shown no signs of winning potential in recent starts, and finished stone last when he was last seen at Dundalk last month, but he has a first and a second from two runs over this course and distance, winning off a mark of 59 last April and nearly following up from 7lb higher ten days later.
Admittedly, he travelled across that time on the back of some good efforts at Dundalk and it won’t be the case on this occasion. However, he is now running off a mark of 61, and with the visor going back on (hasn’t worn it since his last runs at this track), he has to be of interest.
The other runner on the card is Phil’s Dream down at the bottom of the weights in the 5f handicap, and Hollie will also ride this boy, although he has to race from 1lb out of the weights.
This is his first time venturing out of Irish soil and he is hard to fancy on recent form, well beaten at Dundalk last Friday. He is a player judged on the pick of his 2024 form but he is very risky.
