Irish trainer sends one runner on the 930-mile round trip to Newcastle on Friday

It’s hard to win competitive handicaps in Ireland and British contests are often less competitive, but there’s nothing uncompetitive about the race Brewing runs in on Friday. County Tipperary-based trainer Kevin Coleman is sending one horse over to Newcastle on the night.

Whilst the 930-mile round trip will be a costly one, there are no Aidan O’Brien, Dermot Weld or Ger Lyons runners in opposition here which could make the difference. We’ve taken a look at his runner’s chances of getting another win on the boards below. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

7.30 Newcastle

Coleman sends his inmate Brewing across the Irish Sea to take his chance in the competitive handicap over the mile and he is near the head of the market for good reason as he arrives here after running some very nice races in defeat in Ireland.

The 7yo son of Showcasing won four times at this course when he was trained by William Haggas but they were all over either 6f or 7f early enough in his career. He never ran over the mile for Haggas but he has run well in two tries over the trip for Coleman of late when runner-up and third in Dundalk handicaps, and it’s a very stiff mile there too so he seemingly does get it. Newcastle equally is a very stiff straight mile.

The worry for Brewing backers is the fact he is winless in nine starts for his current yard but there have been positive signs of late and it would be no surprise to see him go off favourite for this.
