Irish-trained former Cheltenham Festival winner possibly raids Sedgefield on Sunday

It was very nearly another day to remember for Tony Martin and Cathy O’Leary as Alphonse Le Grande crossed the line in first place in the Cesarewitch last weekend. However, the race was subsequently handed to Manxman as Jamie Powell struck the winner ten times which means he lost the race. Another ex-Martin horse possibly runs at Sedgefield on Sunday and he has to be of interest. You can check out our free horse racing tips on the website.

4.20 Sedgefield

Former Cheltenham Festival winner Good Time Jonny could head to Sedgefield on Sunday. The 2023 Pertemps winner has failed to match that level of form over fences, but he’s starting to look really well treated and there’s every possibility this could be the day for him in a winnable 3m5f Durham National Handicap Chase.

Good Time Jonny ran his best race over larger obstacles yet when third of six at Listowel over 2m6f last month but a very sharp track over that trip didn’t really suit him on the day. Sedgefield is a sharp enough track too mind, but the extra mile is really going to suit this hold-up merchant, who will be ridden with plenty of patience before trying to strike late on.

Given he won the Pertemps off a mark of 142, he looks really well-handicapped from a mark of 132 over fences. It must also be noted that he holds an entry for the Munster National at Limerick tomorrow too but he is currently the second reserve so needs a couple to come out. If he does head to Sedgefield, he must have a big chance on these terms.
