It’s always of interest when one of the smaller trainers sends a runner over to Britain. Garrett Ahern has had six runners in Britain over jumps and has one winner at Plumpton. He’s yet to have a runner on the Flat over here but that could be about to change on Wednesday. Ahern is set to send one runner over to Ffos Las on Wednesday. The journey is a 472-mile round trip and connections won’t want to come home empty-handed. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Nusra (3-1, bet365) is a maiden over both Flat and Jumps during a 29-race career. Ahern’s charge has placed six times in 19 starts on the Flat however. She came very close to finally shedding her maiden tag at Limerick back in April. Finishing second by just half-a-length, that was probably a career-best effort over 1m3f. This mare also came close over an extended 1m4f at Tipperary for Edward O’Grady last May.
Recent evidence suggests she should be competitive off this mark of 53 as her second back in April came off this mark. She has a significant advantage over her three rivals here, as she is vastly more experienced and will need to make full use of it.
Sir Mark Prescott’s Natacata is the likely favourite and looks like the biggest danger and could prove difficult to beat. If Nusra can reproduce her best form however, she could be a big player in this very minor event. The ground is likely to be on the testing side and her best effort came on soft ground, which suggests she’s unlikely to get bogged down.
