Irish jockey with a Cheltenham winner heads to Ludlow for two rides on Thursday

JJ Slevin is retained rider for prominent National Hunt owners Isaac Souede and Simon Munir and as such, he gets plenty of nice rides on both sides of the Irish Sea. He heads to Ludlow for the second time this season and will ride two horses for Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies. We’ve assessed the chances of both runners and one runner in particular catches the eye, after finishing second last time out. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.50 Ludlow

Tax For Max is winless in seven starts for this yard although that is surely set to change sooner rather than later. He was third behind Rubaud and Hamlet’s Night in the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton in November and should be capable of winning a 0-120 0n that evidence.

The son of Maxios won a beginners’ chase at Wexford for Willie Mullins back in 2023 and he was a smart handicap hurdler before that. Outstayed when second over 2m4f at Huntingdon last time out, he’s been dropped another 2lb since and the nine-year-old is likely to appreciate the return to two miles.

4.20 Ludlow

Krak has been difficult to place since joining this yard but he produced some smart form over hurdles for Stuart Crawford. Third behind the very useful Kaid d’Authie in a hot maiden hurdle at Leopardstown on debut, he managed to win on his first handicap start a few months later.

Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies’ six-year-old just about qualifies for this 0-120 and the drop in grade combined with a 3lb lower mark could make a big difference here.
