Albert Einstein is an exciting prospect

The horse in question is Albert Einstein, a son of Wootton Bassett who won both of his starts last season. Sent off the odds-on favourite at Naas on his debut over 6f last May, he did his best work in the closing stages and won nicely.

At the Curragh next time in the 6f Group 3 Marble Hill Stakes, he was sent off the 4-11 favourite but backers were made to sweat on this occasion. Slowly away, he met some traffic problems in running but still finished his race off well to score by three quarters of a length.

O’Brien said: “Of the Guineas horses, the number one horse at the moment is Albert Einstein.

“When we started working him in the spring of his two-year-old career, we thought all the juveniles were no good and he was the only one we had. He was that much above everything else. He’s very big, very powerful, wide and strong.

“He was so far ahead of everything, it just wasn’t funny. He won at Naas very easily, and then at the Curragh. He travelled strongly and is unbelievably quick. It’s whether he’s able to slow himself down and relax [to get a mile].

“He’s going to go to the Guineas without ever coming off the bridle in training at home, because we want to make sure he relaxes. In terms of speed, I don’t think we’ve ever had a horse as quick.

“We won’t know whether he’s going to get the mile until we do it. The stride people, the heart people, the pedigree people, everyone says that he’ll get a mile, but we’ll have to see it first.

“The minute the gates open, he’s so rapid. It’s obviously a natural instinct, he just lands running and travelling. Ideally, you wouldn’t like him to make the running and you’d love to see him put to sleep for the first half of the race. He’s unbelievably exciting.”
