‘He’s a little bit under the radar’ – Four Aidan O’Brien-trained horses for the 2026 season

Conor Fennelly of the Racing Post sat down with the King of Ballydoyle Aidan O’Brien to discuss the yard’s horses in detail for the season ahead. Below, we have pinpointed the four horses to follow and make sure you head over to the Racing Post to read Aidan O’Brien’s Stable Tour, it’s a fantastic read.

Montreal

O’Brien stated: “He’s a horse that’s a little bit under the radar.” Third in a mile maiden at Leopardstown on his debut, the son of Sea The Stars won over that same C&D by a staggering eight lengths next time and there’s every chance he could turn into a proper Epsom horse.

New Zealand

O’Brien stated: “He’ll go into a Derby trial and is one who’ll stay well.” He beat two very good stablemates in Isaac Newton and Action in a Curragh maiden last summer before somewhat losing his way in higher grades. He’s one who could fill out into a proper stayer this season.

Pierre Bonnard

O’Brien stated: “Ryan rode him at the Curragh and thinks he’s a horse who is going to get a mile and a half well.” This boy probably isn’t what you’d call a dark horse but there’s every chance he can turn into the yard’s best horse this year. Currently 4/1 for the Derby, he is a big, imposing type who won a Group 1 when last seen and he has real star quality.

Port Ferdinand

O’Brien stated: “He’s going to stay and he’ll start off in a Classic trial”. He dug deep to win a 1m Naas maiden on his sole outing and there’s plenty of untapped potential there this term.
