‘He’s 16/1 from 66/1’ – Three big Cheltenham Festival market movers this week

The entire National Hunt season revolves around the Cheltenham Festival and the betting markets are always moving. It’s sometimes a good idea to keep an eye on them as it’s sometimes helpful but always interesting. Plenty will happen between now and March so it’s good to be on the lookout for value. Last weekend’s action has had an impact on the ante-post markets so we’ve picked out three of the biggest market movers. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Glengouly (66/1 into 16/1)

Many were surprised by his victory in the December Gold Cup last weekend, judging by his 33/1 odds, but not us. We tipped him earlier on in the week, as the ex-Willie Mullins inmate has some smart form to his name. He’s 16/1 from 66/1 for the TrustATrader Plate, which now takes place on Day 1. The handicapper will have his say but Glengouly is definitely one to keep an eye on now.

Minella Study (25/1 into 12/1)

Adam Nicol’s star juvenile won a Listed contest at Wetherby beforehand but brought his form to a new level when winning the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday. The three-year-old has been halved in price for the Hallgarten and Novum Wines Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham, currently 12/1 having been as big as 25/1.

Irish Point (33/1 into 22/1)

Gordon Elliott’s very talented hurdler missed the last campaign due to injury but it’ll be exciting to see him return. Second in the 2024 Champion Hurdle, he’s much better over further. Owners Robcour are stacked in the staying hurdle division so it’s interesting that he’s been shortened for the Stayers’ Hurdle. The seven-year-old has been trimmed into 22/1 from 33/1 and would have every chance if lining up.
