Whilst the big guns usually win most of the top races throughout the season, the smaller yards can get their day in the sun. With that in mind, we’ve picked out three horses from smaller yards who have recieved glowing assessments from their trainers. These include one for Warren Greatrex, who reportedly could be one of the best he has ever trained. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Bass Hunter represents the Chris Gordon yard and the trainer really rates the five-year-old highly. The trainer said: “Before his first run for us at Newbury I said to my wife Jenny that in the 18 years we’ve been training I’ve never sat on a horse like him. We’re going to go to Ascot next for the Listed bumper just before Christmas and we’ll see how we go. He looks like a special horse and feels like a beast.”
Three-year-old Milou Du Chenet produced a smart performance on debut at Bangor earlier this month and Warren Greatrex is expecting big things. He said “We bought him as a two-year-old and he has the air of a very smart horse. He moves beautifully, has a great attitude, goes in any ground and jumps great. He has everything and could be one of the nicest horses that I’ve trained.”
The Big Clubman represents Irish trainer Paul Nolan and he was runner-up in a Grade 3 at Navan earlier this month. Nolan said: “We were delighted with how he stepped up from his maiden hurdle win when finishing second in a Navan Grade 3 this month. He looks like a decent stayer. He’s one to look forward to. If we’re thinking of going to Cheltenham, maybe the Albert Bartlett could be a target.”
