‘He had no chance’ – Four beaten Royal Ascot horses to add to your tracker

Royal Ascot is over for another year but there was no shortage in excellence or drama over the five days. The next job is to work out what Royal Ascot runners will be big names in the remaining major races of the season. With this in mind, we’ve picked out four horses that were beaten at Ascot that should be winning races in the future. These horses acquitted themselves well and were eye-catching enough to go in the tracker. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Vauban

Gold Cup fourth Vauban travelled very strongly into the race and was looking very dangerous before the petrol tank emptied. Willie Mullins’ gelding is clearly a very talented stayer on the Flat but 2m4f was just a little too far for him. It’s highly likely that the son of Galiway will be a force over 1m6f or two miles and it would be very dangerous to give up on him.

King’s Gambit

Harry Charlton’s three-year-old was too far back and has to be considered an unlucky loser in the Hampton Court Stakes. Gaining on the winner with every yard, he had no chance of winning but managed to keep on for second. Perhaps a step up in trip is in order and that effort certainly suggested that 1m4f won’t be an issue.

Simmering

There’s no doubt that Aidan O’Brien’s Fairy Godmother was the deserved winner of the Albany but Simmering ran a blinder to finish second. She managed to split the O’Brien pair and kept on very strongly under Jamie Spencer. Ollie Sangster’s filly could be suited by 7f but she’s talented enough to contest the top races over 6f and is one to follow.

Kikkuli

Another one for Harry Charlton, this daughter of Kingman is half-sister to Frankel. She’s progressing nicely so far and was just a short head behind the very smart Haatem. A little keen in the early stages, she’s clearly not the finished article and further improvement should be on the cards.
