Harriet Bethell has an 80% strike-rate at Carlisle in 2025 and runs one on Monday

It’s been a solid campaign for trainer Harriet Bethell so far this season and a strike-rate of 20 per cent is notable. With 14 winners from just 71 runners, things are clearly going pretty well for the yard. Carlisle has been a particularly happy hunting ground, as four of her five runners there were victorious.

6.05 Carlisle

Original Thinker has won two of her 18 starts to date, one of which came here over 7f on seasonal debut. The front two were clear of the rest that day and Bethell’s five-year-old did her best work late on. Hitting the front in the closing stages, she went on to score by a neck.

A 4lb rise looked pretty reasonable, although her two subsequent efforts at Doncaster were more than a little underwhelming. The handicapper has dropped her 1lb since she finished seventh when last seen and that will surely help her cause.

She’ll need to prove her stamina for the trip in order to come out on top, but the daughter of Oasis Dream remains lightly raced over a mile. Carlisle’s stiff uphill finish provides another challenge on that front but victory is by no means out of the question.

Six-time course winner Detective is entitled to be in the mix, after winning at Musselburgh two starts ago, and the in-form Hostelry is likely to be on the premises too.
