Four Irish winners at York on Day 1 – Can they do it again on Friday?

The Curragh 2018

What a start it has been to the York Ebor Festival for the Irish, bagging four winners on Day 1. Three of those came from the Aidan O’Brien yard as The Lion In Winter, Los Angeles and City Of Troy all won under Ryan Moore but the real story of the day was Pat O’Donnell’s Extensio landing the stayers’ handicap. On Friday the Irish have some nice chances again and we have put the four runners into a Lucky 15!

1.50 York

Irish hopes in the opener rest with Kevin Coleman’s Derry Lad, who won twice at up to 1m4f last season and is no stranger to British shores. He arrives here after good thirds at Naas and Epsom in May but has to bounce back from a poor effort at Galway last time. He’s respected nonetheless.

2.25 York

Aidan O’Brien had has a fantastic meeting already and Point Lonsdale has his quirks but looked very good when winning the Ormonde Stakes at Chester in May. He was far from disgraced back at Group 1 level when third in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud when last seen and looks a proper stayer in the making.

4.45 York

Wootton Bassett filly Whirl is the mount of Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien’s runner can be expected to improve on her debut fourth at the Curragh behind Ger Lyons’ Red Letter who has multiple Group 1 entries. There should be more to come.

5.20 York

David Marnane has a live chance in the last with Tokenomics, who got off the mark with plenty in hand over 7f at Dundalk last month before following up in good style at Leopardstown when upped to 1m1f when last seen.
