Four horses sent on 700-mile trips to Musselburgh form a Lucky 15 on Friday

Simply getting a horse to the races is a costly endeavour these days so owners and trainers can be forgiven for running their horses as locally as possible. That’s not the case on Friday however, as there are a significant number of southern raiders being sent on 700-mile round trips to Musselburgh.

2.20 Musselburgh

Mission Classified was a well beaten third on debut but improved to finish second by a length at Brighton next time, despite being a touch too keen. Hollie Doyle is on board once again and further progress can’t be ruled out. Archie Watson has a 50 per cent strike-rate at the track this year and that certainly bodes well.

2.50 Musselburgh

Snake Charmer won a maiden over this trip on his penultimate start, although the form hasn’t worked out well. He struggled on handicap debut at Newbury last time and this could be a more suitable test. Homestrait looks like the biggest danger but Watson’s colt should be there or thereabouts.

3.20 Musselburgh

Crimson Spirit has been very progressive this season, winning three consecutive starts. The son of Harry Angel was particularly impressive at Epsom last month and it’s easy to forgive his most recent run. He deserves another chance or two and this contest certainly looks easier.

3.55 Musselburgh

Pop Star represents the Alice Haynes yard and the five-year-old is entitled to go close here. A nose away from winning at Hamilton in May, a 1lb higher mark shouldn’t be an issue on that evidence. It’s worth noting that his last win came off an 8lb lower mark but that success came by a wide margin.
