Former greyhound trainer has first runner as a horse trainer at Newbury on Friday

Former greyhound trainer Paul Attwater will have his first runner as a horse trainer at Newbury Racecourse today. A new addition to the training ranks, he will be looking to make a fast start. Make sure you check out our free horse racing tips for today and for the weekend’s racing action.

5.20 Newbury

Dunstan is a big price at Newbury this afternoon but he won four times on the all-weather for Barry Brennan last year so clearly has plenty of ability. Best of luck if you have a play on the runner this evening.

Attwater was assistant to Seamus Mullins for a few years and is based at the historic Newlands Stables. His first runner is Dunstan who can be backed at large odds today but he has the profile of a horse who might be able to run a big race.

The Saxon Warrior colt started out life with Ralph Beckett, finishing second three times for the yard before moving to Brennan. He was fast out of gates at his new yard, notching up consecutive wins on an artificial surface at Southwell twice, Wolverhampton and Newcastle after an encouraging stable debut.

Clearly highly regarded, he had his final run for the yard in the bet365 Classic Trial, a Group 3 at Sandown in April, where he was out of his depth. He subsequently had two runs for Tom Dascombe to no avail, but could be nicely treated now.
