We’re all still recovering from last week’s Cheltenham Festival but the Grand National is just on the horizon now. Several horses would have used Cheltenham races as potential prep runs for a Grand National bid. We’ve picked out some of the more eye-catching candidates and they include last week’s Ultima winner. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero’s stable star put any stamina doubts to rest when keeping on well to finish second in the Ultima at Cheltenham. It remains to be seen if an extended 4m2f would suit and there has to be some question marks about his willingness to get his head in front. He could definitely has the ability to go close, so don’t rule out a massive run.
Dan Skelton has had a terrific season so far and victory in the Grand National would top it off. Panic Attack ran a nice race to finish third behind Dinoblue in the Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham and a stiffer test of stamina will suit the Coral Gold Cup winner. The handicapper has clearly given her a big chance off 147 and provided her stamina reserves don’t run out, she should be in the mix.
Gavin Cromwell’s 10-year-old would be the first veteran to win the race since Pineau De Re in 2014 but Tiger Roll proved that the Cross Country Chase is a good trial. Up with the pace throughout on that occasion, he saw the trip out well and stamina is unlikely to be a problem. It’s worth noting that he needs plenty of horses to come out in order to get a run.
