Retained rider for Amo Racing, David Egan makes the journey across to Galway for the first time ever on Sunday as he will take the ride on a runner for his boss in the valuable Ahonoora Handicap over 7f. Surely this could be a tip in itself? Let’s take a look at the horse’s chance in more detail below.
David Egan has never ridden a runner at Galway before but that will all change on Sunday as he will get the leg up on Gleneagle Bay for Irish trainer Stephen Thorne, and at first glance this boy has to be considered as a solid each-way bet in a very competitive handicap.
The five-year-old son of Gleneagles has been gifted the perfect draw by the rail in stall one so it will be vital that he gets away pretty lively to take full advantage of his position, and this boy is well used to contesting big handicaps too.
He had three near misses in big handicaps of late and had a valid excuse for his 10th of 27 in a tough handicap at Royal Ascot when last seen, caught far too wide and poorly placed early on when sent off at just odds of 7/1. That was not his true running at all and he is worth another chance.
Still lightly raced for his age, he was narrowly denied when third in the Victoria Cup at Ascot in May and as long as the rain stays away, he should have a big say in the finish. Egan isn’t coming across just to take part. Best of luck if you have a punt.
