Constitution Hill will run his second race on the Flat at 7.30pm at Kempton on Wednesday and on paper at least, it looks a formality. Here’s a runner-by-runner guide for the 1m4f novice contest.
1 Constitution Hill
Jockey: Ryan Moore
Trainer: Nicky Henderson
Top-class hurdler who won eight consecutive Grade 1s and couldn’t have been more impressive on his Flat debut at Southwell over this trip last month. Ryan Moore has picked up the ride and he will surely win barring an accident.
2 Classical Allusion
Jockey: Callum Hutchinson
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Son of Ulysses who was weak in the market but still impressed when making a winning debut in a 1m4f maiden at Southwell last September. There could be plenty more to come from him and he might be the each-way play in the race.
3 Edward Sexton
Jockey: Paddy Bradley
Trainer: Gary & Josh Moore
Bumper winner who showed very little in three Flat runs last year and looks one that may improve for a switch to handicaps down the line.
4 Roadlesstravelled
Jockey: Alistair Rawlinson
Trainer: Jonjo & AJ O’Neill
Won his first three hurdle starts last season, including a Grade 2 at Haydock, and a fair effort on the Flat last time when second in a 1m3f Southwell novice this month. Stable in form and could go well.
5 Star Artist
Jockey: Hollie Doyle
Trainer: Hughie Morrison
Hurdles winner but was tailed off behind Constitution Hill on Flat debut at Southwell last month. Safe to rule out.
6 Victors Spirit
Jockey: Charles Bishop
Trainer: Neil King
Showed ability in bumpers but fell both tries over hurdles. Not a bad first Flat effort when fifth over 1m3f at Southwell but looks well up against it here.
7 Serviceman
Jockey: Jason Watson
Trainer: Andrew Balding
One of two for the yard. Showed some ability in two runs for Owen Burrows in 2024 and although he hasn’t been seen since, he has been gelded and it would be folly to dismiss him stepping up in trip.
8 Keep It Cool
Jockey: Christian Howarth
Trainer: James Owen
Decent start on the Flat when second over the extended mile at Wolverhampton novice nine days ago but will be outclassed in this company.
Constitution Hill will win this surely! However, at such short odds, it’s hard to tip him and if you are looking for an each-way alternative, perhaps Classical Allusion is the safest each-way bet out there.
