St. Patrick’s Thursday is the third day of the Cheltenham Festival and as is usually the case, the Irish will be expecting to dominate once again. The home team won’t want them to have it all their own way however and there are some serious British-trained chances across the card. We’ve picked out four horses who could spoil the Irish party and combined them into a Lucky 15. Take a look at our Cheltenham Day 3 selections and our free tips page.
Regent’s Stroll represents the Paul Nicholls yard and they won this very race last year with Caldwell Potter. This horse has a very similar profile and is definitely more talented than he has shown over fences so far. It all comes down to whether or not he will settle but there should be a strong gallop and he’s more than capable of going close off this sort of mark.
Ma Shantou has made huge strides this season, after starting off with a handicap success here in October and going in again on New Year’s Day. Emma Lavelle’s gelding stepped into graded company for the Cleeve Hurdle last time out and after winning with plenty in hand, he’s a real contender on that evidence.
Supremely West finished third behind Ma Shantou on seasonal debut, which qualified him for this race, and it’s fair to say that connections haven’t been subtle with regards to his preparation. Well beaten in three starts since, we’re likely to see a vastly improved performance this time around.
Jeriko Du Reponet was very progressive in staying handicap hurdles last term and was second in the Pertemps Final before going one better at the Punchestown Festival. We haven’t seen the best of him over fences yet but that could very well be set to change here and he stays all day.
