The ground at Hexham is currently described as soft, heavy in places and conditions will therefore be vastly different to those at Hereford, where it’s good to soft, good in places. It means you’ll be on the lookout for horses with proven records in testing ground and we have picked out three such runners that could be worth following. Kinder Kid won back-to-back races on soft ground in March and hasn’t been seen since. Conditions should therefore by right up his street as he bids to complete the hat-trick. Both successes came over three miles and he’ll need to prove that this shorter trip will suit but he remains lightly raced and appears to be progressive. Up 8lb for his most recent win, it would be no surprise if there was more to come.
Grand Voyage has made the frame in six of his 10 starts on soft and that includes three wins. Last season was a tad disappointing as he failed to win off marks as low as 102, despite having won a chase at Ayr off 119 back in November 2022. His best form indicates that he’s well treated off his current rating and perhaps a return to winning ways could be on the cards in suitable conditions here.
Raffles Wonder is a previous winner on both soft and heavy ground, meaning there will be no excuses with these conditions. One of those wins came by a wide margin here in March and he should be suited by the switch to fences.
