Charlie Appleby has an excellent strike-rate at Newmarket so check out this 23/1 treble

Local trainer Charlie Appleby has made both Newmarket racecourses his home over the last few years, managing to maintain a very healthy strike-rate. Operating at 38 per cent here on the Rowley Mile this season, that’s very impressive considering how competitive the racing always is here.

He has had 98 winners here over the last five seasons and has three chances to make it 100 on Thursday. With four runners across three races, we’ve combined his three best hopes into a juicy treble. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

1.50 Newmarket

Del Maro (15/8, bet365) kept on well to finish second by half-a-length on the July Course on debut and had to overcome a slow start. Perhaps the soft ground was an issue at Doncaster after that and he was well beaten in third. Returning to quicker conditions should suit and he’s unlikely to be far away.

2.25 Newmarket

Monoceros (11/4, bet365) was held up in the early stages on debut back in August and Billy Loughnane delivered him late to score by half-a-length. He could only finish third under a penalty at Leicester next time, despite being very well backed, and handicaps should suit. An opening mark of 87 isn’t massively generous but it’s unlikely that we’ve seen the best of him yet.

3.35 Newmarket

Distant Storm (5/4, bet365) beat the very smart Aidan O’Brien-trained colt Constitution River on debut and that rival has a won a Group 2 since. It’s a little disappointing that he could only manage third in the Acomb Stakes at York. This looks much easier though and he deserves another chance.
