Ascot Gold Cup big-race verdict: ‘How this horse is 100-1 is beyond me’ 😱😱

The Ascot Gold Cup is the big race of the day on Thursday and what a cracker it is shaping up to be. Make sure you check out our free Royal Ascot Day 3 tips on our website and you can also check out our Royal Ascot mini-site too. Adrian Wall and Liam Bramall have locked horns and they both give their verdicts for the feature below.

‘This boy absolutely loves Ascot’

I think Trueshan is severely underestimated in the market and he looks like an each-way bet to nothing to my eyes. He bolted up here in the Long Distance Cup in 2020, and made it two wins from two at the track when winning that race again in 2021. The trip will be no problem as he hammered Stradivarius in the Prix Du Cadran last October and although the ground would be the only slight concern, he is far too big a price to ignore. – Adrian Wall

‘How this horse is 100-1 is beyond me’

Earlofthecotswolds arrives here off the back of three consecutive wins, including two all-weather championship qualifiers over trips around two miles. In the first of those qualifier wins he beat Tuesday’s Ascot Stakes winner Coltrane by six lengths. The return to the turf isn’t a concern for this six-time winner over hurdles and fences.

Whilst there isn’t a stamina guarantee, he looks better equipped for this trip than most as a winner over an extended 2m4f at Market Rasen and Newbury over hurdles. Although he could be vulnerable for win purposes, his massive price makes him great each-way value. Liam Keniry has been on board for all of his five flat starts and takes the ride again. The pair haven’t been out of the first three in all five races and that trend can continue. – Liam Bramall
