Ascot Champions Day: three runners to put into your accumulator on Saturday

One of the highlights of the Flat season is Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse and as ever for this time of the year, the mud is going to be flying so handling heavy ground will be of the utmost importance. There are three runners at Ascot who could be worth siding with and we have put the three into an acca. Make sure you check out our free horse racing tips for tips for every race on the card, which will be live on ITV.

1.20 Ascot

Kyprios and Trawlerman lock horns once again in the Long Distance Cup and although the latter won last year, it should be roles reversed here if Ryan Moore gets his fractions right. He hit the front a long way from home last year and idled in front, which allowed Trawlerman to get back up in the dying strides. Moore surely won’t make the same mistake twice and he will hang onto Kyprios as long as possible.

3.15 Ascot

Charyn wasn’t given the best of rides when second in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp when last seen but he has had a terrific year and cap it off with victory in another Group 1. A winner of the Queen Anne over C&D, he went on to land the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville and handles testing conditions.

3.55 Ascot

He has to prove he can handle heavy ground but if he does, Economics should be winning this. The Dante winner went on to land the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville and the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, where he responded really well to pressure. He’s had a light enough campaign so should be chomping at the bit.
